Today we honor Maria Montessori, the Italian physician, educator, and humanitarian whose revolutionary approach to learning transformed classrooms around the world.
Born in Chiaravalle, Italy, in 1870, Montessori became one of the first women in Italy to earn a medical degree. Her scientific training, combined with a deep respect for children and their natural curiosity, inspired a completely new philosophy of education.
She developed what is now known as the Montessori Method, encouraging children to learn through exploration, independence, creativity, and hands-on discovery. Her classrooms fostered confidence, responsibility, and a lifelong love of learning.
Today, thousands of Montessori schools operate throughout the United States and across the world, continuing her vision that every child deserves an environment where individual potential can flourish.
As America celebrates its 250th Anniversary, we proudly recognize Giuseppe Verdi for the timeless gift of music, the enduring spirit of Italian culture, and the universal language of artistic excellence.
