August 15 • Saint Clare of Assisi
Saint Clare of Assisi, born Chiara Offreduccio in Assisi in 1194, chose a life of prayer, poverty, and devotion. Inspired by Saint Francis, she renounced wealth and family privilege to follow a spiritual path rooted in humility and service.
She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, later known as the Poor Clares, and guided her community with courage, discipline, and deep faith. Clare became known for her steadfast leadership and for the spiritual strength that sustained her sisters through times of hardship.
Canonized in 1255, Saint Clare remains one of the most beloved women of the Church. Her life continues to inspire people around the world through its example of holiness, simplicity, charity, and enduring trust in God.
