Scholarships and Education
The Colorado Italian American Foundation believes that preserving heritage also means investing in the people who will carry it forward. Through scholarships, educational outreach, cultural programming, and community partnerships, COIAF helps connect students with opportunity while encouraging a lifelong appreciation for Italian and Italian-American history, culture, service, and achievement.
COIAF accepts scholarship applications as a co-partner with Sons of Italy Lodge 2378. The annual application period generally begins during the last week of November and continues through January 9 of the following year.
The complete application, submission instructions, and requirements for each scholarship cycle will be posted on this page near the Thanksgiving holiday.
Annual Scholarship Schedule
Applicants should rely upon the official application published for the current scholarship cycle because requirements and supporting documentation may be updated from year to year.
Scholarship Selection
Scholarships are awarded through review by the Scholarship Committee, with consideration given to merit and academic performance.
The committee’s purpose is to recognize applicants who demonstrate educational commitment, personal achievement, responsible leadership, and the potential to make a positive contribution to their communities.
Submitting an application does not guarantee an award. All application materials must be complete and received by the stated deadline to be considered.
Preparing to Apply
Students may begin organizing their materials before the application period opens. The official application will identify every required item for the current cycle.
- Academic records and recent transcripts
- School, community, and volunteer activities
- Honors, awards, leadership roles, and extracurricular involvement
- Personal or educational statements requested by the committee
- Recommendations or supporting materials identified in the application
- Accurate contact information and proof of timely submission
Education Beyond the Scholarship
COIAF’s educational mission extends beyond financial awards by making Italian and Italian-American heritage visible, accessible, and useful to students, families, educators, and the public.
Learning Through Heritage
COIAF presents historical storytelling, museums, monuments, cultural institutions, community organizations, and digital educational resources that help visitors explore the depth of Italian and Italian-American achievement.
The daily Heritage Minute introduces visitors to artists, scientists, educators, civic leaders, explorers, musicians, entrepreneurs, and innovators whose work has influenced Colorado, the United States, Italy, and the wider world.
A Growing Educational Network
Through the International Italian Heritage Coalition Network, students and families can discover museums, historic places, organizations, events, cultural resources, restaurants, markets, and educational opportunities throughout a growing national network.
These resources help connect classroom learning, family history, cultural identity, and community participation.
Why Scholarship Support Matters
A scholarship does more than assist with educational expenses. It recognizes achievement, encourages continued learning, and shows a student that the community believes in their future.
Supporting the Next Generation
Contributions designated for scholarships help COIAF and its partners continue supporting educational opportunity and the preservation of Italian heritage for future generations.
Individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations may support the COIAF scholarship mission.
Information for Donors
Scholarship donations received by COIAF support educational opportunity and may be tax-deductible as permitted by law.
Donors should retain their contribution records and consult their tax adviser regarding their individual circumstances.
