Mario Marchetti

Professor Mario Marchetti, an Italian aerospace engineer whose career has advanced the materials and structures used in space exploration.

At Sapienza University of Rome, Marchetti has worked in astronautics, aerospace engineering, and the study of materials exposed to the harsh environment of space. His research has examined carbon-fiber composites, atomic oxygen, ultraviolet radiation, thermal protection, electromagnetic shielding, and technologies designed to make spacecraft lighter, stronger, and more resilient.

Marchetti has also served the international aerospace community through the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the International Astronautical Congress. His leadership has supported continuing research into smart materials, adaptive structures, nanotechnology, and specialized spacecraft systems.

His story is of decades of research, teaching, scientific collaboration, and leadership that helped prepare new generations of engineers to explore beyond Earth.
