Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra was born Francis Albert Sinatra in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1915, the son of Italian immigrants. From those modest beginnings he developed one of the most recognizable voices in American popular music.

After early success with the bands of Harry James and Tommy Dorsey, Sinatra emerged as a major solo performer. His phrasing, timing and interpretation transformed the way popular songs were sung, while his recordings and live performances made him an international star.

Sinatra also built a distinguished film career, winning an Academy Award for his performance in From Here to Eternity. Across decades of music, motion pictures and live entertainment, his style, confidence and unmistakable voice became part of twentieth-century American culture.
