Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini was born in Sant’Angelo Lodigiano, Italy, in 1850. Driven by an extraordinary combination of faith, courage, discipline, and compassion, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and dedicated her life to serving people in need.
In 1889, Cabrini traveled to New York, where she encountered thousands of Italian immigrants struggling with poverty, discrimination, poor housing, inadequate medical care, and limited educational opportunities. She responded by building practical institutions that could change lives.
Schools, orphanages, hospitals, and charitable institutions followed across the United States and beyond. Cabrini became known not simply for compassion, but for her remarkable ability to organize, fund, build, and sustain the institutions required to serve entire communities.
