As utility companies continue their Federal mandated decommissioning all of the remaining Coal-Fired plants Colorado, what do you think is going to happen to your electric rates? You are of correct – they are going to skyrocket! There is a way for you to prevent this impact and that is by using the utility company’s own energy program called Net Metering with Solar Energy. There are three ways to solve this challenge – 1) Acquire a private multi-faceted micro-grid using solar, generator and energy storage modules you system — this is the best bang for the buck as you get to claim a 30% tax credit refund on the cost of the system; 2) Finance a system with the same features as above; the only thing to be aware of is to closely review the financing charges as some companies will attempt to recoup their profit up front; which has been a concern since 2022 with the significant rates hikes; and as long as the interest rates are decent you will lower your monthly costs significantly and be in good shape for the long run — NOTE: the 30% tax credit is available but generally needs to be given to the financing company within the first 18 months; 3) This option is a Lease called a PPA – Power Purchase Agreement – this costs you literally ZERO to install, the leasing company owns the equipment and maintains it and your benefit is you get clean solar energy and a lower monthly bill.
